Historic brass one-piece “flat” button worn by President John Adams. The button measures 3/4” and is attached to an old paper tag that reads “button worn by President John Adams/from Brooks Adams his great grandson, 1921/on reverse “imperial standard.” The button comes in a riker case with the listed provenance; “Brooks Adams (great grandson) to Dr. Courtney (1876-1958) & Mrs. Elma Edmond (1885-1968) of Alleghany County, Virginia. Button collectors from the 1920s-1950s. Dr. & Mrs. Edmond bequeathed their extensive collection to their niece Courtney (Edmond) VanFossen (1919-2011) who stored it away for decades. Mrs. VanFossen in turn gifted the collection to her friends Edward Donald & Peggy Agnor McClure, who also stashed the button collection away for years.” A fine piece of presidential memorabilia.
Comes housed in a display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
