Cavalry Carbine Sling - Inventory Number: CAV 066 / SOLD
A very nice complete example of a federal issue cavalry sling in black bridle leather. Issued to and used by Union cavalry prior to and during the Civil War. Worn over the trooper’s shoulder with the snap hook attached to the sling bar on the carbine.
The swivel buckle is deeply marked by E. Gaylord of Chicopee Mass and a bold U.S. marking. The entire length that measures 52 inches long and 2 3/8 inches wide. Bridle leather surface is very strong and supple. Brass buckle and tip “batwings” original to the sling having never been cleaned showing a heavy coat of verdigris! A very nice example with supple bridle leather. Getting hard to find.
