Cavalry Carbine Sling - Inventory Number: LEA 392 / SOLD
A very nice complete example of a federal issue cavalry sling in black bridle leather. Issued to and used by Union cavalry prior to and during the Civil War. Worn over the trooper’s shoulder with the snap hook attached to the sling bar on the carbine.
Marker marked “L. 3rd CAV. 2”. The entire length measures 52 inches long and 2 3/8 inches wide. The bridle leather surface is very strong and supple. Brass buckle is replaced with a copy and tip “batwings” are original to the sling. A maker’s mark is present between the buckles. A very nice example with supple bridle leather. Getting hard to find. Civil War Carbine sling buckle is marked: Shepherd and E. Gaylord Chicopee, Mass.
