    Civil War 5th Corps Badge - Inventory Number: INS 264 / SOLD

    The idea of a distinctive badge for each army corps was adopted by General Joseph Hooker after he assumed command of the Army of the Potomac. Daniel Butterfield, Hooker's chief of staff, was assigned the task of designing a distinctive shape for each corps badge. This silver 5th Corps badge is in the regulation form of a Maltese cross. It measures 1” across with and is inlaid with dark blue enamel with a brass pin back. A classic wartime example from a hard fighting corps of the Army of the Potomac. 

    Comes housed in a 5 x 6 inch display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
