Civil War-Era Bone and Ebony Domino Set in Original Dovetail Box c. 1860s - Inventory Number: CAM 622 / SOLD

A complete 28-piece set of period dominoes dating to the Civil War era, skillfully constructed from bone and ebony with classic brass pin inlays. Each tile features a hand-assembled two-piece construction: polished bone face inlaid into a dense ebony backing, secured with a central brass pin—hallmarks of mid-19th century craftsmanship.

All 28 pieces are present and well-matched, exhibiting expected patina and signs of use, consistent with careful handling over more than 160 years. The set is housed in its original wooden storage box, constructed with fine dovetail joinery and a simple sliding lid—an excellent example of utilitarian period design.

Such sets were popular recreational items among soldiers and civilians alike during the Civil War, often carried in camp or kept in the parlor for evening diversion. Surviving examples in this condition, with all tiles present (one chip in the corner of the two / two) and housed in their original box, are increasingly scarce.  A handsome and authentic relic of everyday life from the Civil War period.
