Civil War Era Spring Lancet / Fleam – Inventory Number: MED 254 / SOLD

Civil War era bloodletting spring-loaded lancet. The case is brass and the blade is steel. The blade was cocked by the hook at end and released with the button on the side.   As a medical therapy, bleeding or bloodletting endured for approximately 2,500 years.  It was only abandoned at the beginning of the 19th century.
