Civil War Infantry Hunting Horn Hat Insignia - Inventory Number: INS 427
Scarce Variant - Three loops on the reverse
An excellent original example of a non-excavated Civil War U.S. infantry hat insignia in the form of the iconic hunting horn device.
Crafted from stamped sheet brass with a high domed profile, this insignia was designed for wear on the front of the Union soldier's Hardee hat or forage cap. The central open loop of the bugle would typically hold a regiment number.
The surface retains its original untouched patina with minor age toning, and three attachment wire loops remain firmly in place on the reverse. These brass insignia were worn by enlisted infantrymen and became one of the most recognizable symbols of Union foot soldiers during the war.
A fine, untouched example of Civil War headgear insignia.
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
