Civil War Mess Plate - Inventory Number: CAM 595 / SOLD
This is an authentic Civil War soldier’s mess plate; often mistakenly called tin. This plate is, as most so-called “tin ware” of the Civil War period is, was manufactures of rolled sheet iron, cold-dipped in tin, as a rust and corrosion inhibitor. The plate is in good condition, retaining some of its original tinning. These are no longer easy to find and were an essential element of all Civil War soldier’s haversacks. Unique small size measures 6 ½ inches.
