Civil War Mess Plate - Inventory Number: CAM 619 / SOLD
This is an authentic Civil War soldier’s mess plate. This plate is, as most so-called “tin ware” of the Civil War period was manufactured of sheet iron, cold-dipped in tin, as a rust and corrosion inhibitor. The plate is in good condition, retaining some of its original tinning. These are no longer easy to find and were an essential element of all Civil War soldier’s haversacks. Approx. 9” wide. The bottom is painted silver.
