Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver Identified and Inscribed to Lewis A. Hoffman, 14th New Jersey Infantry - Inventory Number: HAN 178 / SOLD

Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with inscription on the butt that reads “L.A. Hoffman 14 NJ Vols.” 2nd Lieutenant Lewis A. Hoffman enlisted in the 14th New Jersey Infantry in August 1862 and saw action at The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. He was injured in a fall and resigned his commission on June 11, 1864. The revolver has all matching serial numbers with a pleasing gray/brown patina and wear from use in the field. The frame still has areas of silver plating. The action is functional but does not hold on the half cock position. This revolver is published on page 113 of Gone for a Soldier: Jerseymen in the Civil War. A wonderful identified Civil War weapon.

Lewis A. Hoffman - Enlisted on 8/27/1862 as a 2nd Lieutenant. On 8/27/1862 he was commissioned into “K” Co. NJ 14th Infantry. He Resigned on 6/11/1864.
