Confederate Bowie Knife - Inventory Number: CON 454 / SOLD

Wonderful, original, southern fighting knife, this is a super attractive example constructed with a well-executed ribbed bone grip. Measures 14 ½ overall.

The original leather sheath is handsome and form fitted to the blade. It has a series of initials, slightly incised into the leather surface. The reverse has a belt loop with a small portion of leather that was removed, possibly to repair another accoutrement in the field. The blade measures 9 inches long and exhibits file marks and casting flaws from the manufacturing process. The simple iron cross guard is constructed with the same material as the blade and is seated at top a copper band just beneath the guard and an additional band the far end of the grip just before a hardwood sphere. The knife is in wonderful condition with one hairline crack in the bone grip, which is to be expected otherwise fine superb example of a southern fighting knife.
