Fragments from a Confederate First National Flag / SOLD
Three fragments from a Confederate First National Flag or “Stars and Bars,” each measuring about 1 ¾” inches in length. Mounted in plastic within a 9 ¾” by 7” matt. The reverse of the matt has a printed description that reads “The First national Flag: On March 5, 1861, the provisional government of the Confederacy passed a resolution adopting the Stars and Bars as its first national flag. The flag from which this remnant comes belonged to the famous Charles F. Gunther collection, which was sold to the Chicago Historical Society in 1920. The flag measured 60” by 90” with a circle of twelve stars, representing the number of states of the Confederacy, on the canton, it was made of silk, a delicate fabric which deteriorated over time.”
Comes housed in an 8 x 12 inch display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
