Gettysburg Cavalry Saber - Inventory Number: GET 468 / SOLD
This is an early example of the 1860 Model Light Cavalry
Saber dated 1859. Manufactured by Ames of Chicopee, Mass. The manufacturers'
markings; inspectors' initials and date are legible on the riccasso. The brass
guard bears an unaltered mellow gold patina. The leather, although dry, is
complete and in sound condition with minimal crazing or flaking. The original
twisted brass wire is present and tight to the grip. The iron scabbard is free
of major dents and bears an even dark brown patina. A very attractive example
with no signs of disturbance to the natural patina.

Robert E. Lee's Headquarters Museum. Only 1,500 manufactured in this date.
The sword is accompanied by an original display plaque which was displayed beneath the saber at the museum, a copy of the book regarding the history of General Lee's Headquarters, a copy of the museum ledgers and letter of de-accession from the museum.
