Wonderful Confederate Sheet Panel Belt Plate and Additional Relics Recovered Near Knob Cemetery in Lascassas, TN – Inventory Number: CON 545
This is one of the nicest examples of a sheet brass Confederate plate as one can find. The face bears a smooth chocolate brown patina and the reverse retains the full iron wire hook assembly. Beneath the attachment device is a beautiful oxidized lead base. The plate is accompanied by the provenance, an email transcript which reads in part:
"We had researched some daily journals in the Tennessee Archives at Nashville and found in an old Yankee journal that described" a narrow muddy lane " where a small fight took place near a cemetery in Lascassas, TN. It had a natural spring next to it and a wagon road. The wagon road was easy to find because the wagon wheels had left ruts. Just started working the road and area around the spring. At the same spot I found a Confederate wreath and a CSN navy button. I took a friend with me about 6 months later and he found the tongue to my wreath just a few yards away. I'm not sure, but I think this was part of the Confederate retreat route after the battle of Stones River.
Thanks, Terry."
Hard to find a nicer example than this!
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
