Horstmann Model 1840 Cavalry Saber - Inventory Number: SWO 250
Model 1840 “wristbreaker” cavalry saber assembled by W. H. Horstmann and Sons of Philadelphia ricasso is stamped “HORSTMANN / PHILA” on one side, with the keystone shaped stamp on the opposite side of Emmerson & Silver of New Jersey. The blade is bright with some areas of pitting and light rust. The brass guard is bright with mottled patina. The leather grip remains in very good condition with the twisted brass wire wrap absent past the pommel. The scabbard is covered with a coat of matte black spray paint. A nice representative example of the Horstmann Model 1840.
