Joslyn Model 1864 Carbine Serial #4,258, .52 Caliber, Iron Mounted - Inventory Number: RIF 250

A strong, military-issued example of the Joslyn Model 1864 Carbine, serial number 4258, chambered in .52 caliber rimfire. Manufactured by the Joslyn Firearms Company of Stonington, Connecticut, the Model 1864 represented significant refinement over earlier models, featuring a more reliable rear-pivoting breechblock system and improved overall durability for field use.

This carbine features a 22-inch round barrel, iron mountings, and standard military configuration, including sling bar and ring on the left side. The breech lever is marked with Joslyn’s patent information, and the serial number 4258 is located on the top of the breech.

The stock proudly bears two crisp U.S. government inspector cartouches on the left side of the wrist, verifying formal acceptance and issue. These carbines were widely distributed among Union cavalry units during the latter part of the Civil War and are prized today for their robust design and historical relevance.

Condition: Very good. Metal surfaces retain a smooth patina with clear markings. Wood is solid with visible cartouches and only light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A fine, representative example of a key Union cavalry arm with desirable inspector stamps.
