May 8, 1866 Letter Written By Confederate General George W.C. Lee (1832-1913) - Inventory Number: DOC 347
Son of General Robert E. Lee. Written to Confederate General H.B. Davidson, Letter References a Trip to Mexico Following the Civil War. It reads in part: "I received your previous letter about a month ago; and in the expectation from week to week of receiving the long-promised money due me, I have delayed writing ... The money has not yet made its appearance, but I am still expecting it ... I am sorry you have not been able to collect your dues but trust you may yet receive them. I hope that you will find Mexico to surpass your most sanguine expectations; but I hardly know how to take it. We hear such contradictory accounts."
