Officer’s chapeau de bras from the Mexican War period, constructed of faux beaver fir. The side of the chapeau bears a large black silk cockade. The edge of the hat above the cockade retains a brass device that holds a large plume of red ostrich feathers in place. The chapeau has an oxblood leather sweatband and is lined with brown polished cotton. The length of the hat is 16 ½” and stands about 10” to the top of the plume. There is a fair amount of wear to the edges and body of the hat. A very well displaying piece of Mexican War headgear.
