Model 1863 Sharps Carbine - Inventory Number: RIF 251 / SOLD
Serial #C10,746 – .52 Caliber Percussion
A solid example of the Model 1863 Sharps Carbine, serial number C10746, chambered in .52 caliber percussion. This model represents one of the most widely issued cavalry carbines of the American Civil War, renowned for its rugged construction and rapid, reliable falling-block action.
This carbine features a 22-inch round barrel, iron mountings. The stock and forearm are solid walnut, with the underside of the barrel displays a unique eagle stamp beneath the forearm—likely indicating U.S. government inspection and acceptance.
Sharps carbines like this were issued to many Federal cavalry units including the 1st and 3rd West Virginia, 5th and 6th Michigan Cavalry, and the famous “Iron Brigade” cavalry regiments. Their battlefield performance made them one of the most valued long arms of the Union cavalry.
Condition: Very good. Metal surfaces have a smooth, uniform patina with sharp edges and markings. Stock is solid with minor handling marks. Mechanically sound. A well-preserved, representative example of a classic Civil War cavalry carbine.
