Original Enfield Cartridge - Inventory Number: BUL 436 / SOLD
An original and very good intact specimen of an ‘Enfield’ type, .577 caliber combustible paper cartridge. Produced for use with the British M1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, this example measures 3” long. The lubricated, grooveless conical lead bullet with its boxwood or clay plug in its hollow base is fitted nose-first into this cavity. An outer wrapping of white paper, now changed to beige, joins the powder charge to the bullet. Paper is still strong and tight with some powder leakage and staining near the bullet base. The cartridge is in very good intact condition with just normal surface dirt on the outer wrap. A scarce collectible that would enhance any Confederate infantryman’s display or Civil War ammunition collection.
Comes housed in 5 x 6 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
