Pre-war russet leather Pattern 1839 musket sling, designed for the 1842 Musket and 1841 Rifle. This sling is distinguished from the later Pattern 1857 sling primarily by the squared off leather end near the adjustment hook, as opposed to the tapered end on the Pattern 1857. The sling measured about 46” and is supple and flexible. The finish has some crazing, and there is a leather reinforcing repair in one spot on the rough side of the sling. Overall, a nice example of a scarce sling.
