Pattern 1851 sword belt buckle for cavalry and artillery enlisted men and worn by infantry NCOs. This is the late-war 1864-1865 style with a shortened German silver wreath, circle of rays, and round recess cast into the back, as pictured on page 400 of American Military Belt Plates by O’Donnell and Campbell. The plate is heavily gilt and bears the benchmark “760” on the back. A very attractive Civil War belt buckle.
Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
