    Pocket Testament found on the Shiloh Battlefield by Zenas H. Smith, 46th Ohio - Inventory Number: IDE 124 / SOLD

    New Testament printed in 1860 by the American Bible Society. The front page is inscribed in period pencil “Zenas H. Smith found this book after the battle on the parade ground, Pittsburg Landing Camp Shiloh Tenn April 8th, 1862.” The second page is stamped “Z. Smith” with a dove and wreath motif in ink. Zenas Smith enlisted as a Corporal on 11/11/61 at age 22. He was engaged with the 46th OH at Shiloh, where they lost 295 men. He died of disease on 11/26/61 in Memphis. This is a fantastic personal item and relic of the Battle of Shiloh. 

     

    Zenas H. Smith:

    22 years old.  Enlisted on 11/11/1861 as a Corporal.

    On 12/27/1861 he mustered into "K" Co. OH 46th Infantry

    He died of disease on 11/26/1862 at Memphis, TN

    Buried: Mississippi River National Cemetery, Memphis, TN
