Two addendums on the back. "the boy has lost a small part of one of the fingers on his left hand, against which defect of course we do not guarantee. Nov 30/59 Blackwell, Murphy, and Ferguson" and "I hereby transfer and give to my son Wm. R. Montmollin in consideration of love & affection... (Newton) a slave for life". Dated November 15, 1863. Accompanied by a period engraving entitled” Branding Slaves”. Powerful document from one of the largest slave trader companies in the South!
