William R. Ward - Residence DeWitt, IA; 35 years old. Enlisted on 8/14/1862 as a 1st Lieut. On 10/1/1862, he was commissioned into "F" Co. Iowa 26th Infantry. He was discharged disability on 6/21/1864. He was listed as: Wounded 1/11/1863 Arkansas Post, AR (Wounded severely). Promotions: Capt. 2/27/1863.
The 26th Iowa Infantry was organized at Clinton, Iowa and mustered in for three years of Federal service on September 30, 1862. The regiment was a part of the 3rd brigade, 1st division, XV Corps. The regiment was mustered out on June 6, 1865.
