Springfield Arms Revolver - Inventory Number: HAN 312 / SOLD
Less than 100 Manufactured Warner Belt Model percussion revolver manufactured by the Springfield Arms Co., of Springfield, Massachusetts, circa 1851. This single action percussion revolver has a 6 inch, .31 caliber, round barrel, six-shot cylinder, center mounted hammer and two-piece walnut grips. The barrel and cylinder were originally blued, the frame and trigger guard silver-plated and the hammer and trigger were color casehardened. The top strap is stamped:
"SPRINGFIELD ARMS CO." and "WARNER'S PATENT/ JAN. 1851". The serial number is stamped on the inside of the right side of the frame and on the inside of the left grip. Springfield Arms Co., manufactured an estimated
100 Warner Patent Belt Model revolvers in 1851 before the firm ceased production under pressure from Colt Firearms for patent infringement.
Surviving examples of this limited production percussion revolver are scarce.
This is a scarce example of one of the earliest competitors to Colt's percussion revolvers.
