Scarce Ben Butler Tintype - Inventory Number: HAR 224
½ Plate tintype photograph of "Beast" Butler the nickname awarded him by the citizens of New Orleans, he commanded the Union occupation was one of the most photographed generals of the Civil War. After the war, Butler ran for office almost continuously, culminating in his 1884 Greenback Party candidacy for the White House. Accordingly, this rare tintype will be of great interest to Civil War and political collectors alike. It is in superb condition, except that his name "Butler" has been neatly written on the surface at the very top. Surely a unique opportunity.
