Short Artillery Sword

Short Artillery Sword - Inventory Number:  SWO 261

Imported Short Artillery sword.  Excellent condition example with mellow patina to brass hilt and scabbard mounts.  The leather body of the scabbard is nearly flawless and is not dry and exhibits a tight seam.  The blade is bright with a deep marking “with an Federal Shield bearing an “F” and “Wester & Co. / Solingen.”. Isaac Wester was in business from approximately 1825 to 1883. His company was a large manufacturer and importer of swords. It is stated that the “& Co.” marking instead of the “& Cie” makings are those made for the Civil War contracts.  A very nice original example!
