Smooth-side Civil War Canteen - Inventory Number: CAN 067 / SOLD
The model 1858 canteen was the most popular canteen of the Civil War period. Canteen measures approximately 7 ¾” in diameter. It is covered in brown wool. The cover is nearly complete with some staining, wear, and loss. All three sling loops, the spout, and stopper are all present. The cover bears the stenciled initials “J.T.S.”. A complete and original cotton shoulder strap remains on the canteen.
This is a solid example of a Civil War smooth-side canteen.
