This Civil War leather accoutrement is a Federal Pattern of 1855 rifle musket cartridge box used to hold forty, .58 caliber paper cartridges. Brass SNY “box” plate is present. This cartridge box was the type issued to Federal infantry through the 1860’s. At the beginning of the Civil War, the State of New York issued brass waist belt plates and cartridge box plates to its first volunteer infantry regiments deploying for field service.

The implement pouch on the inside is complete. The inner retains both of the side “ears”. The box is complete with both tins intact. Manufactured by Condict of New York
