    Southern Cross of Honor for Thomas C. McBryde Surrendered at Appomattox - Inventory Number: IDE 158 / SOLD

    The Southern Cross of Honor was a commemorative medal established in 1899 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy to honor Confederate veterans. At least 78,761 were award from 1900 to 1959. The top bar has the name “T.C. McBryde” inscribed, and patent markings on the reverse. Thomas C. McBryde enlisted as a corporal in the 44th Alabama Infantry in May 1861 and surrendered at Appomattox on April 9, 1865. Suspended from the top bar is the Maltese cross with a laurel wreath at the center encircling a Confederate battle flag. The points of cross read, "UNITED DAUGHTERS CONFEDERACY TO THE U.C.V." The reverse of the cross has another laurel wreath at center with "DEO VINDICE 1861" over "1865". Each point of the cross as a word finishing the phrase, "SOUTHERN CROSS OF HONOR.” An excellent ID’d example with a wonderful, uncleaned patina.

    Thomas C. McBryde - Enlisted on 5/1/1862 as a Corporal. On 5/1/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. AL 44th Infantry. He was Surrendered on 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

    Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
