Civil War U.S. issue carbine cartridge box with an interior drilled wooden block containing 9 original 1865 56-50 Spencer cartridges. The box has supple leather with some crazing on the outer flap. The inside of the outer flap has a partially legible ink stenciling that reads “CO A SMITH.” The inner flap retains both leather ears with some broken stitches. One roller buckle is detached from the bottom and is stored in the implement pouch. Overall, a nice Civil War cavalryman’s cartridge box.
