    The Surrender of General Lee And His Entire Army to Lieut. General U.S. Grant, April 9, 1865, with 1868 copyright line of Thos. Kelly and Eng'd by John C. McRae, N.Y. in the lower margin.  23" x 30" (print), 27.75" x 34.75" (with frame).  Period hand-colored, scarce. 

    The print features the surrender of General Robert E. lee to Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant.  The latter is depicted on the right, handing Lee a document stating the terms of surrender; Lee’s hand is extended.  They stand in front of a tree.  Their armies are pictured in the background.  The text underneath the print reads, “The Surrender of General Lee and His Entire Army to Lieutenant General U.S. Grant, April 9th, 1865.  This memorable event terminated the Great Rebellion.”
