Bronze token struck in celebration of Ulysses S. Grant’s capture of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The obverse bears a fairly inaccurate portrait of Grant with the legend “MAJ. GEN. U.S. GRANT/ VICKSBURG JULY 4 1863.” The reverse depicts an eagle with the legend “THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED” with a star and “VICTORY.” The token measures 7/8” by 1/10” and is in uncirculated condition. A scarce piece of Ulysses S. Grant memorabilia.
