U.S. Carbine Sling Buckle / SOLD

Non-excavated Civil War carbine sling buckle, which fastened the leather sling that carried the cavalry trooper’s carbine. This example has the maker’s and inspector’s markings “T. J. SHEPARD/ U.S./ E. GAYLORD. CHICOPEE MASS.” Stamped into the back of the frame. The buckle measures 3 ¼” by 2” and has some slight bends. A scarce, fully marked example. 

Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
