Excellent example of the Virginia stamped brass rectangular belt plate. Crisp detail remains on the raised image of the Virginia state seal with motto, "SIC SEMPER TYRANUS" above, and "VIRGINIA" below. Seal features Virtus with sword down and spear up, standing over the slain tyrant. Laurel wreath flanks the seal on each side. Reverse of the plate features a tongue hook and keeper bar with two teeth. Plate retains original curve. Plate exhibits a medium patina, with original gilt showing on recessed areas. Measures 1 7/8" by 2 ¾".
Comes housed in a display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
