Non-excavated, pre-war 23mm Virginia State Seal coat button. The face depicts the Virginia state seal with Virtus slaying the tyrant and “Sic Semper Tyrannis.” Highly detailed die strike with all original gilt remaining. The button retains the shank and has the backmark “HORSTMANN & ALLIEN/NY”. This style is listed as V229A1 in Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865 by Warren K. Tice. An excellent specimen.
