War Dated Jefferson Davis Letter - Inventory Number: CON 353 / SOLD
Handwritten note in ink by Confederate President Jefferson Davis, measuring 5 ½" by 3 ½. It reads "The case is one which served to me fairly to excite suspicion, and my statement to that effect has led to this written defense, As Mr. Evans claims to be a Virginian and is within your jurisdiction you will find two reasons to excuse me for troubling you with this inference. Very truly yours, Jefferson Davis, July 2', 1861." The note is matted and housed in a 17 ½" by 14" frame with a steel engraving of Jefferson Davis copied from a Matthew Brady photograph. A scarce Jefferson Davis wartime dated signed document.
