Fifth Model Burnside Carbine – Excellent Condition Range match to Co. “I” of the 4th Wisconsin Vol. Cavalry - Inventory Number: RIF 243

    Ex: Don Troiani Collection

An excellent example of the Fifth Model Burnside Carbine, one of the most reliable and widely issued cavalry carbines of the Civil War.

The .54 caliber breech-loading carbine features a nearly flawless blued barrel with excellent bore and sharp rifling. The case-hardened frame retains vibrant original colors, and all markings—including the Burnside Patent stamp and maker’s address—are clear and crisp. The action functions flawlessly, with tight lockup and a smooth trigger pull.

The walnut stock and forearm are outstanding, showing only the most minimal handling marks and bearing sharp, well-defined inspector cartouches on the left side of the wrist. The saddle ring and bar remain securely attached, and all metal components are clean, smooth, and free of corrosion or pitting.

A true investment-grade example of a late-war Fifth Model Burnside, this carbine would be a highlight in any advanced Civil War firearms collection with unit affiliation based that Serial number 17,795 was issued on 10/01/ 64 to Co. “I” of the 4th Wisconsin Vol. Cavalry.
