Spectacular artillery officer’s Hardee pattern slouch hat. The visor to crown height is 5” with grosgrain hatband and binding, two ostrich feathers, tarred leather sweatband, and multi-color silk lining. The hat is adorned with a twisted black silk and gold bullion cord ending in two acorns and a 2 3/8” by 1 ½” gold bullion artillery insignia embroidered on navy wool. The front of the crown has a 2 ¼” by 2 ¾” 1858 pattern eagle hat insignia with gold bullion and silver stars embroidered on black velvet with twisted gilt wire border, pinned to right side holding up brim. A scarce and highly attractive Civil War officer’s hat.
