Light artillery, cavalry troops, and some NCO's, musicians and privates of infantry units went to the front decorated with brass scales on their shoulders. Designed to ward off the blows of sabers by cavalrymen, they were frequently discarded in the field or relegated to dress uniforms. This dug example is pieced together from parts likely recovered from the same hole.
Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
