Mid-19th Century Historical Figural Flask – Washington/Taylor Portrait Flask – Inventory Number: BOT 183
“The Father of His Country” / “Gen. Taylor Never Surrenders”
This aqua green historical flask is a fine example of mid-19th century American patriotic glass, featuring embossed bust portraits of two prominent figures from the era:
Obverse: Embossed bust of George Washington, facing left, with the inscription “The Father of His Country” arched above.
Reverse: Embossed bust of General Zachary Taylor, also facing left, with the inscription “Gen. Taylor Never Surrenders” above.
Attributed to the dyed-in-the-wool American mold designs of the 1840s–1860s, this piece was likely produced by one of the famed glasshouses of the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast, such as the Dyottville Glass Works of Philadelphia or one of the Pittsburgh-area factories.
Measures approximately 8 inches.
This flask celebrates both the revered Founding Father and the hero of the Mexican-American War, reflecting the patriotic fervor of the time. It is highly desirable for collectors of historical bottles, early Americana, and presidential memorabilia.
