New Testament ID’d to William H. Gordon, 6th Michigan - Inventory Number: HIS 120 / SOLD

Pocket sized New Testament with a printed presentation tag pasted onto the first page. The tag is filled out in ink and reads “presented to Wm. H. Gordon of Co. E, Sixth Regiment Michigan Infantry, by The Ladies of Marshall. Should he fall in battle, address to William Gordon of Tekonsha, Michigan.” The following page has the pencil inscription “presented to Carrie M. Gordon by William H. Gordon. William Gordon enlisted as a private in the 6th Michigan Infantry in August 1861. He re-enlisted in February 1864 and was mustered out in August 1865. His regiment spent most of its service in the Department of the Gulf, and saw action at Baton Rouge, Port Hudson, and throughout the Louisiana bayous to Spanish Fort, Alabama. The bible measures 3 ¾” by 2 ½” with gilded edges and is missing part of the binding on the spine. A nice Civil War soldier’s personal item.
