The dedication of the New York monument in honor of its troops at Gettysburg took place on July 2, 1893, titled “New York Day.” This is a small pin back medal from the occasion. From a bronze top bar with a simple floral design hangs a red, white and blue ribbon A white metal planchet hangs from this with the NY state monument on it surrounded by the words, “In memory of our noble dead.” The monument is inscribed with the names of the officers killed in the battle: 82 of them. Another 912 enlisted men were killed. Slightly over 4,000 officers and enlisted men were wounded.
The silver wash on the planchet is in near mint condition as is the silk ribbon and would be a highlight for a NY veterans’ collection.
