Original Civil War Brass Hat Letter “C” – Company Designation - Inventory Number: INS 412

This is an authentic brass hat letter “C,” used during the Civil War era to designate a soldier’s company. These letters were typically affixed to the front of the soldier’s forage cap or kepi as part of the uniform of Union and occasionally Confederate troops. Reverse retains lead fill. Solid stamped brass, letter: “C” (commonly designated for Company C). Excellent patina with minor wear from age and use Standard regulation size for military hat insignia. Two of three original fixture pins remain on reverse.
