“Perry’s Victory” - Inventory Number: MIS 194 / SOLD
Stunning hand painted scene on glass entitled “Perry’s Victory”. The bright gold leaf, red, white and blue highlights ore well executed. A widespread eagle with Federal shield, panoply of arms and ships engaging. This would have been used as a panel on a period mantle clock or similar. Nicely framed in a gold gilded frame, measuring: 8” x10”.
With Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship dead in the water, the British had apparently won the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie. But then the quick-thinking American commander turned the tables and snatched an astounding victory in the bloodiest naval fight of the War of 1812.
