US 3″ Dyer Shell Found on the Gettysburg PA. Battlefield and once part of the J.A. Danner Museum (#2) - Inventory Number:   GET 385 / SOLD

Recently de-accessed from the MOLLUS Museum and photographed in William C. Davis’ book “Fighting Men of The Civil War”.

This interesting projectile was fired with the adapter only partially screwed in. This may have caused a weak detonation that cracked the shell but failed to fragment it. Condition is excellent and you can tell it was picked up not long after the battle. Danner’s Museum #2 is painted on one side. Evidently this shell was donated to the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States Museum and Library sometime after its inception in 1886. Note museum catalog # 86.1.20 painted on the bottom. The shell is also the very one photographed on page 109 of William C. Davis’ book “Fighting Men of The Civil War”.
