Non excavated US 1839 pattern belt buckle with a nice mellow patina. The rear is lead filled with stud style belt hooks behind the ‘S”, commonly referred to as “puppy paws” by collectors. These were typical of early Civil War buckles. A fine example.
Comes housed in a 5 x 6 inch display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
