A scarce and visually striking mourning ribbon commemorating the death of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, one of the most revered figures of the American Revolutionary generation. Silk ribbon features an elegant funerary design with draped mourning tassels surrounding a central medallion portrait.
The ribbon bears the inscription “LAFAYETTE” above and “DIED May 21st 1834 aged 76 yrs.” below, marking Lafayette’s death and reflecting the profound national mourning that followed.
