Gettysburg 50th Anniversary Veteran’s Pin
Identified to Participant (1913)
Fine and desirable identified badge from the monumental 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, held July 1–4, 1913. This classic reunion pin features the iconic keystone-shaped form with laurel wreath and central enameled detail, bearing the inscription “Gettysburg 1863–1913.”
The original period identification tag still affixed, reading in period hand: “Rob Shook/ Co. G 5th Infantry/ Mich / June 1–3, 1913.” The reverse retains an additional printed Gettysburg, PA label with faint contemporary pencil notations.
The 1913 Gettysburg Reunion stands as one of the largest gatherings of Civil War veterans in American history, drawing over 50,000 Union and Confederate veterans to the battlefield for commemoration and reconciliation. Identified badges of this nature, especially those retaining their original card stock tags—are increasingly scarce.
An excellent, untouched example with strong historical presence and direct association to one of the most significant commemorative events of the Civil War era.
Robert Shook lived in Macomb County at enlistment. He enlisted in company G, Fifth Infantry, July 31, 1861, at Fort Wayne, for 3 years, age 17. On 12/19/1864, he mustered into “B” Co. Michigan 30th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 6/30/1865 at Detroit, MI
